Numbeo lists for BA among other things internet approx. $25–40/month and local transit tickets in the cents-to-$1 range — budget the pass/SUBE separately.

Health insurance

  • Public: public hospitals — emergencies are treated; since the 2025 reforms, non-permanents outside emergencies may need insurance or prepayment
  • Obras sociales: via social-security employment
  • Prepagas (private): e.g. OSDE, Swiss Medical, Galeno — monthly premiums heavily age/plan-dependent (often several hundred USD-equivalent for good plans; exact rates from the insurer)
  • Tourists/arrivals: international travel insurance with adequate coverage is strongly recommended (consulate/notices sometimes cite high minimum coverage)

Best neighborhoods (BA)

Palermo

Parks, cafés, start-ups, nightlife. Popular with expats — accordingly pricier and more touristy.

Recoleta

Classic, embassies, museums, quieter than Palermo Soho. Good location toward downtown.

Belgrano / Núñez

Residential, green, family-friendly, good links to the north.

San Telmo / Centro

Character & near sights; uneven by street — check on site.

Daily life

  • Internet: fiber widely available in BA (Movistar, Personal, Fibertel/Telecom and others)
  • Transport: SUBE for subway, bus, many trains; apps for remis/taxi
  • Language: Rioplatense Spanish (voseo); English helps in BA but not everywhere
  • Mindset: social, evening-oriented, family-focused; bureaucracy needs patience and complete paperwork
  • Siesta less strict than in smaller towns — shops in BA often stay open through midday
