UNESCO old town; ferry from Buenos Aires or bus from Montevideo (ca. 2–3 h). Ideal for 1–2 nights.
Beach, Casapueblo (Punta Ballena), peak season Dec–Feb. Prices and occupancy swing sharply with the season.
Piriápolis for a quieter coast; Cabo Polonio and La Pedrera in Rocha for nature and surfing — infrastructure can be sparse.
Inland: wineries around Canelones/Carmelo, hot springs in the north (e.g. Salto/Paysandú). The bus network (e.g. Tres Cruces) links most destinations.
