Immigration & Visa
Stay paths via SAIME: tourism, extensions and common temporary/residence categories.
Updated: Research as of: November 2026
Tourism vs longer stay
A tourist stay is time-limited and does not allow local employment. Longer or purpose-based stays go through SAIME categories (temporary, residence) and often a consular visa before arrival.
Orientation (simplified)
| Path | Duration (indicative) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Tourist | often up to ~90 days | No local paid work; nationality rules |
| Tourist extension | extension (SAIME) | Request with reasons, ticket, fees — check deadlines |
| Temporary work (TR-L) | typ. 1 year, renewable | Labour ministry work authorization required |
| Family / student temporary | by category | Proof of family link or studies |
| Residence / permanent | per SAIME path | Renew well before expiry |
SAIME – basics
- Online account on saime.gob.ve for many renewals.
- Passport copy often with at least 6 months’ validity for renewals (SAIME lists).
- Keep entry/exit stamps and prior visa papers.
- Fees sometimes in tax units (U.T.) — confirm current value and payment method.
Temporary work (TR-L)
Per SAIME info: application with passport (6 months’ validity), labour ministry work authorization or waiver, and company power of attorney. After SAIME authorization, the visa is typically collected at a Venezuelan mission abroad. Validity per notice: one year, renewable for another year; ID card (cédula) after cedulación order.
Extensions (tourist / residence)
SAIME describes tourist and resident extensions with a motive letter, outbound ticket, stamp copies for the current year and fee payment. For temporary visa extensions, info.saime cites 45 days before expiry and a passport with 6 months’ validity.
