VAT (IVA), income tax in tax units (U.T.), IGTF and notes for newcomers — with official and specialist sources.
Updated: Research as of: November 2026
Tax system – overview
- Authority: SENIAT (national customs and tax service).
- IVA (VAT): general rate 16 % (unchanged for years in specialist summaries; check current SENIAT lists).
- ISLR (income tax): brackets in tax units (U.T.) for individuals and companies.
- IGTF: tax on large financial transactions — including foreign-currency/crypto payments in regulated cases (often 3 %).
- Double-tax treaties: depend on your home country — check the applicable treaty.
Tax unit (U.T.)
Many tax and fee amounts are stated in U.T. Per FOGADE on the SENIAT ruling (Official Gazette No. 43.140, 2 June 2025), the U.T. rose to Bs. 43.00 (for SENIAT taxes only, not automatically for all public fees).
ISLR – orientation (companies)
Specialist summaries (2026) cite progressive brackets for Schedule 2 (legal entities) on net taxable income in U.T.:
ISLR Schedule 2 (orientation)
| Bracket (U.T.) | Rate |
|---|---|
| Up to 2,000 U.T. | 15 % |
| Over 2,000 to 3,000 U.T. | 22 % |
| Over 3,000 U.T. | 34 % |
Individuals (Schedule 1) have their own brackets (specialist sources cite roughly 6–34 % in U.T.). Details: SENIAT / current ISLR law.
IVA & IGTF
- IVA: standard 16 %; reduced or extra rates may apply to listed goods/services.
- IGTF: relevant for foreign-currency payments or certain crypto transactions; special taxpayers have their own filing calendars.
- RIF is the tax ID for formal activity.
